Textile Art

Inspired by Wildlife & Nature

Where fabric, thread, and the natural world become art.

The Art of Thread & Textile

Textile art brings together fabric, thread, texture, color, and stitch to create an original work of art. For Wendy, the process is a way of capturing the beauty, personality, and spirit of the natural world through layers of cloth and expressive threadwork.

Rather than simply reproducing an image, each piece is built by hand. Fabrics are layered and shaped, then stitching adds detail, movement, texture, and dimension. The result is a one-of-a-kind artwork that is as tactile as it is visual.

Inspiration

Every piece begins with inspiration from the natural world and the individual character of an animal.

The Artwork

  • The Trace

Where the unseen becomes a language of connection. To follow the scent of an animal is to follow its invisible passage through the world.

Scent is a trace of presence—an intimate reminder that another life has moved through the same landscape, leaving behind a story we may never fully see.

For wildlife, scent is language. It marks territory, carries identity, signals danger, attraction, and belonging. What is invisible to us may be rich with meaning to another animal.

To encounter an animal through scent is to experience wildlife differently. We are no longer simply observers standing apart from nature, but participants in a shared sensory world.

Perhaps scent reminds us that the wild is always around us—moving quietly beyond our sight, leaving invisible threads that connect one life to another.

  • The Gaze

The moment the wild looks back. To see a wild animal is to recognize another life moving through the same world, yet experiencing it in ways we may never fully know.

Seeing begins when observation becomes relationship.

Each encounter is a meeting of awareness—one being noticing another, each shaped by its own senses, instincts, memories, and understanding of the world. What we see is only part of what is present.

The exchange may be brief, but it reminds us that we do not move through the natural world alone. We share it with countless other lives, each perceiving, responding, and finding its way through the world.

The Gaze invites attention, humility, and kinship—an act of recognition that carries responsibility.

Of Wildlife and Women™

Where science meets artistic expression.

Of Wildlife and Women™ explores the profound and often unseen relationship between women and the wild.

Inspired by the experiences and perspectives of women biologists, scientists, and educators, who are also artists—the exhibition brings together science, creativity, observation, and lived experience to consider how women have sought to understand—and connect with—the natural world.

Wildlife is not presented simply as something to be studied or observed, but as fellow beings with whom we share an intricate and living world. The work invites us to consider what becomes possible when scientific knowledge and artistic expression meet curiosity, intuition, and a deep sense of connection.

At its heart, Of Wildlife and Women™ asks us to look beyond the traditional boundaries between human and wild, observer and observed, science and art.

It is an invitation to look closer, listen differently, and recognize the women who have dedicated their lives to understanding the wild—and the ways in which the wild, in turn, has shaped them.
